Tarpon Springs: A Jewel of the Arts

A small town in a densely populated county on the Gulf of Mexico could easily be overlooked, but Tarpon Springs has a surprisingly rich cultural history. From the visual arts, to architecture, folklife, film, music, and even the culinary arts, Tarpon Springs has made important contributions to the culture of Florida. These include nine inductees into the Florida Heritage Hall of Fame, more than any other city in Florida. In 2000, the Great Floridians Program recognized five contributors to the state's development in Tarpon Springs. The prestigious Florida Artists Hall of Fame, located in the state capitol building, includes three artists from Tarpon Springs, surpassed only by Miami and Tallahassee for its number of inductees. Join Lynn Whitelaw for an enlightening look at one of Florida’s most unique cities, right here in Pinellas County.
