The American Western in Literature, Film, and Pop Culture   

An overview of the representation of the American West ranging from 19 th Century literary works through subsequent cinematic and pop cultural productions. This course will focus on the relationship between Westerns and dominant, American ideologies such as
individualism, self-reliance, and fair play and how those ideologies change during the 19th through 21st centuries.
