Florida Arts: Contemporary Art in Miami

Miami now is widely recognized as an important center for contemporary art, especially since it is host to Art Basel, one of the most important international art fairs. In that neighborhood, Wynwood Walls has become world famous as an all year round destination for Street Art Murals. Don and Mera Rubell, passionate collectors and philanthropists, were instrumental in bringing this fair to Miami. Their museum not only houses an incredible collection, but also offers programs for artists in residence, drawing new talent to Florida. The Perez Art Museum is another outstanding museum in Miami, focusing on contemporary art, and housed in a newly designed building by Herzog and De Meuron., On a smaller scale, St Pete is developing into an important contemporary center for glass art, which we will explore at the Imagine Museum with its outstanding international collection, as well as the Dale Chihuly Foundation. The Warehouse Art District is a vibrant creative area along the old railroad tracks, offering studio and exhibition space to local artists.
