Description: During World War I, a new machine changed the battlefield—the tank. Trench warfare had made offensive operations nearly impossible, but thanks to an American tractor design and Winston Churchill’s support, the British Army introduced tanks. In World War II, Germany built entire military formations around them, known as Panzer or armored divisions. During the Cold War, tanks faced new challenges and opportunities. This course explores the history of the tank—its origins, purpose, and how it has helped shape military victories.
