Description: Most recent Presidents have had a “little White House,” a place where they could stay from time to time in order to rest and work peacefully. Camp David, the Eisenhower little White House, is perhaps the best known. Less well known is President Truman’s little White House, located on the Key West naval base. Truman visited it often during his seven-year presidency. This presentation looks at the major decisions Truman planned during his time in Key West, as well as the fascinating history of the Key West naval base since the time the island became U.S. territory in the 1820s. The Truman Little White House in Key West is now a State of Florida museum.
