Fascinating Lives of Women Artists

At the forefront of women’s Expressionist art was German artist Gabriele Münter, who for a time shared her 'Blue House' in Murnau, near Munich, with Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky. Her work was inspired by her partnership with Kandinsky, as well as the vivid palettes of Gauguin and the Fauves. Munter's vibrant canvases also drew heavily from local folk art, including traditional tole and reverse-glass painting.
